This is a Digital Equipment Corporation Decwriter terminal. It was obtained around 1982, along with a matching DEC PDP8/M mini mainframe computer, and a flat-drawer filing cabinet. Based on a tip from a schoolmate, whose father worked at Husky Energy, I was able to purchase the entire lot for around 0CND as obsolete equipment. Since Husky was in the midst of moving into new quarters, items at their disposal were priced to move.

The filing cabinet and PDP have followed me from house to house. The hardcore, 19" equipment rack that originally housed the PDP8 currently encases my servers and networking gear at home. The Decwriter, however, has been languishing away in my parent’s basement for the past quarter century. Now, with my parents moved into their new condo and the house on the verge of being sold to my aunt, the terminal had to move as well. These images offer proof that my final piece of crap has been evicted from of my childhood home.

In an odd coincidence, the file numbers for these two images assigned by my camera as _MG_1970 and _MG_1971 … the exact years the Decwriter and the PDP8 were manufactured. Totally bizarre.

Okay, Windows XP, Epson Stylus Printer/Scanner/Copier with Arcsoft software. I’ve tried going to Microsoft to look up how to do this and it doesn’t help because it says that I need to hook computer into phone jack. The problem with that is that I don’t have traditional phone service, my phone goes through the cable/internet. It’s not even hooked into the phone jack in the wall. Can anyone help?

You can not fax the way you are set up unless your Epson is a printer/scanner/copier/fax.
What you should do is check into an efax program like faxmicro or something like that. This will allow you to send to a fax machine by uploading to their website.

I made a bike light that is powered by my wheel spinning, not batteries. You can buy these, they are called dynamos. I just wanted to make one myself. The power source is a small DC motor I salvaged from a computer printer someone threw in their trash. I modified the output shaft of the DC motor so that I could screw the speedometer cable directly to it, without any added gearing. as my wheel spins it turns the speedometer cable, which then turns the motor. I wired the motor to a small 9 led flashlight that someone gave me. when I start peddling my light turns on. when I stop, the light stops. No more batteries for me. The light is primarily not to see, but to be seen by cars and other bikes easily. The street lights all over Portland, OR are good enough to see.

I am conducting research for a new printer product and I need to understand the insurance (auto, health, life, ect.) work environment. If you are in insurance please let me know what you print (types of documents), what type of printer you print on (B/W Laser, Color Laser, Inkjet), how many pages on average would you say you print, and any special features you need in your industry (duplexing, job tracking/acct, 11 x 17, ect.). EVERYTHING gets printed, from policy forms, dec pages, to insurance id cards, proposals, invoices, collection letters, black & white AND color, not to mention management reports.

The average AGENT probably prints 200-600 pages A DAY, if you count their support staff.

Of COURSE we need all the above.

I have no idea what you mean between the difference between an enterprise and a business – two words, same meaning.
